Justice Shouldn't Depend on Your Ability to Afford It.
For years, Mary C. Evans, Esq. served as a Florida Circuit Court Judge, presiding over thousands of cases involving families, children, landlords, tenants, and individuals facing some of life's most difficult legal challenges.
Day after day, she saw people walk into the courtroom carrying more than legal paperwork—they carried uncertainty, fear, and frustration.
Many weren't looking for someone to fight an entire case on their behalf.
They simply needed someone to explain the process.
Someone to answer questions.
Someone to prepare legal documents correctly.
Someone to help them understand what came next.
Unfortunately, many individuals found themselves caught in what Mary came to recognize as the "justice gap." They earned too much to qualify for free legal assistance but could not afford the cost of traditional full-service legal representation. As a result, they often appeared in court alone, attempting to navigate complex legal procedures without the guidance they needed.
Throughout her years on the bench, Mary saw firsthand how difficult the legal system can be for people without legal training. While judges must remain impartial and cannot provide legal advice, she witnessed the challenges self-represented litigants faced in preparing documents, understanding court rules, and presenting their cases effectively.
After returning to private practice, Mary asked a simple question:
What if there was a better way?
What if experienced legal guidance could be delivered in a more flexible, affordable, and accessible format?
What if individuals could receive professional assistance with the specific legal tasks they needed—without always requiring traditional full-service representation?
Those questions became the foundation of Courtside Legal Services.
